Occupational Therapist Spotlight

Every Friday morning we are blessed to have Nikki join our classroom fun. Nikki's role as Occupational Therapist is to implement therapy into the classroom by planning engaging activities that stimulate sensory needs, assist with internal balance, and build motor skills.

She supports me in giving suggestions about placements and behavior management, and is a true advocate for the kids. Another aspect of her job is collaborating between special education teachers and general education teachers when students spend more time in other classrooms. The sensory room is another place we often find her at work, as well as working with us at snack time to help students become adjusted to a wider variety of food textures and flavors.

This week our students dipped cut apples in paint, laid on a swing, and painted a colorful poster. Thanks for all your help Nikki! If you have any questions for her, you can contact her at nikki@muncie.k12.in.us.
